Terms of use
These terms cover your use of On-Sale Dates: the dates the site publishes, what you may do with the site, and the limits of its liability. Using the site means you accept them.
Acceptance
By using On-Sale Dates you accept these terms. If you do not agree with them, please stop using the site.
What the site publishes
On-Sale Dates publishes on-sale dates: the day a book goes on sale. It covers upcoming and recent books by series and by author, edition by edition and by region, each with a status tier, its sources and a change log. This is general information. Publishers and retailers set and move dates, so a date can change after it was checked. Check a date with the retailer or publisher before you pre-order or spend money on it. The site sells nothing.
A No date entry may carry a modeled window, worked out from the gaps between the author's earlier books. It is an estimate, not an announcement. A Placeholder is a stand-in date a retailer listed before any announcement, shown and labeled as such.
Accuracy and no warranty
Every future date is re-checked nightly against its sources, but a date can still be wrong, late or moved after the check. The site is provided "as is" and "as available", with no warranty of accuracy, completeness, timeliness or fitness for a particular purpose.
Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator excludes liability for loss or damage arising from use of the site, including a pre-order, purchase, plan or journey made on the strength of a date shown. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under the law of England and Wales.
Independence from publishers and retailers
The site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any publisher, author, retailer or catalogue named on its pages. Their names appear only to say where a date came from and where a book can be had.
Your use of the site
The site welcomes ordinary reading, sharing and linking. Here is what you may do, and what you may not.
- Read the site, link to it, quote it with attribution, and screenshot pages with a link back.
- Put the site's countdown card and badge on your own sites, and add the RSS and calendar (.ics) feeds to a feed reader or calendar app.
- Automated access at a reasonable rate is fine when the software identifies itself and does not degrade the service for others.
- Do not republish whole pages, or the record as a whole, as your own.
- Do not use the site for unlawful purposes.
A site that embeds the card loads it from onsaledates.com. The Privacy policy says what that sends.
Copyright
The page text, the design, the code and the compiled record, meaning the tiers, the sources ledger and the change log, are the copyright of On-Sale Dates. A date itself is a fact and belongs to nobody.
Book titles, cover images and descriptions belong to their publishers and authors. The site shows them only to identify the book, and names the source beside them. A rights holder who wants an image or a description removed can say so through the error report page, and it will be removed.
Email alerts
Alerts are free and double opt-in: nothing is sent until you press the confirmation link. One email per change to a date. You can stop them at any time with the link in any email. Delivery depends on your email provider and cannot be guaranteed. Alerts may be paused or retired at any time. Addresses are never sold.
Error reports and corrections
You can report an error to check and correct the record. Corrections are logged publicly with their date and reason, never with your name or email address. Please do not include personal information about other people in a report.
Links to other sites
Outbound links lead to other sites with their own terms and policies, which are outside the operator's control.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change. A revised version is posted on this page with a new effective date, and continued use of the site after that counts as acceptance of it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. A consumer in another jurisdiction keeps the protections that cannot be excluded there.
Contact
Questions about these terms go through the error report page. No email address is published on the site.
