What the on-sale day means

Not one of Apple Books and Kobo names an hour or a time zone for a digital pre-order. What each store says happens on the on-sale day is in its own sentence below.

An on-sale date is the first day a store is allowed to sell the book. That rule is written down at Penguin Random House, Penguin Random House UK and Hachette UK Distribution.

Amazon aims a US pre-order at arriving on the on-sale day, on the items and delivery speeds its own sentence names. See that sentence for which ones.

Barnes & Noble states when a US pre-order leaves rather than when it lands, so the day it arrives is not a day the store states.

  • Kobo You’re billed for the book on the day it’s released, not the day you pre-order.
  • Penguin Random House The date that a title is allowed to go “on-sale” and appear on shelves and on display in stores for customers to purchase

Sarah J. Maas is an American fantasy author. She was born in New York City in 1986 and lives there today. She writes three series: Throne of Glass, A Court of Thorns and Roses, and Crescent City. Her debut novel, Throne of Glass, went on sale in 2012. She began writing it at sixteen. She graduated from Hamilton College in 2008 with a degree in creative writing.
